Desktop app and agent
Shara is used day to day from the desktop app. It is where the chat with Amadeus, the approvals inbox and native notifications live. Separately, and only if you want it, there is an agent that runs on your machine and executes actions there: they are two different things and are installed separately.
What each thing is
Section titled “What each thing is”| Piece | What it is | When you need it |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop app | The application with an interface: chat, approvals, settings, billing. | Always. It is the recommended client. |
| Desktop agent | A headless service that runs on your computer and executes what Amadeus asks of it with access to your whole profile, within the exclusions below. | When you want the agents to act on your own machine. |
| Server Agent | The equivalent for servers with nobody at the screen: a resident, headless agent through which the agents read the server. Changes need an administrator’s approval. Flows don’t launch themselves: today they run with the Run button or by asking Amadeus. | Server environments. |
All three are included in every plan from First. They are not a paid extra.
Installing the desktop app
Section titled “Installing the desktop app”Download the package for your system and open it. The links always point to the current version, so there is no need to look for the number:
| System | Download | Formats |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Download for Windows | One-click .exe installer. Creates a shortcut and a start menu entry, and launches when finished. |
| macOS | Download for macOS | Universal .dmg (and .zip): the same package works for Apple Silicon and Intel. |
| Linux | AppImage · .deb · .rpm · pacman | .AppImage, .deb, .rpm and .pacman, all for x64. |
One warning worth giving up front: the installers are not signed with a publisher certificate. The first time, Windows SmartScreen or macOS Gatekeeper will show a warning; you have to explicitly accept to continue. That is expected, not a sign that something is wrong. Trust comes from the origin of the download and the hash published alongside the package.
On Linux, if you use the AppImage, run it as is. The loose binary that comes out of unpacking the package does not register the
shara://link, and without that the browser login doesn’t know how to return to the application.
Automatic updates
Section titled “Automatic updates”The app checks for a new version against updates.sharasaas.com and updates itself. There is no need to reinstall by hand or keep an eye on the version number.
If you have an old installation pointing to updates.aiginer.com, that name is retired. Reinstall from the current package and the app will point to the right feed.
Signing in: the login returns to the app
Section titled “Signing in: the login returns to the app”Sign-in happens in the browser, at app.sharasaas.com, and when it finishes the page returns you to the application through the shara:// link, which the installer registers on all three systems. If the browser asks whether you want to open Shara, say yes.
Two-step verification is optional (the company can require it of its whole team): if you have it enabled, keep your authenticator app at hand. Details in Account, team and access.
Active sessions
Section titled “Active sessions”From Settings → Security you see the open sessions on your account: device, IP address and approximate city of each, deduced from the connection. You can sign out the rest of the sessions from there and leave only the one you are using alive. It is the first thing to do if you suspect someone has gotten in with your password.
The desktop agent
Section titled “The desktop agent”The agent is a service that runs on your computer and executes what Amadeus assigns to it. It is installed from the desktop app itself, in Settings → Desktop agent, and is registered to start on its own at sign-in:
| System | How it starts on its own |
|---|---|
| Windows | Scheduled task at sign-in. |
| macOS | A LaunchAgent in your user. |
| Linux | A systemd user service. |
What it can do: by default the agent has access to your whole profile on the computer. It can read, create, edit, move and delete files, run programs and scripts and control the browser, always on the desktop of the person talking to it. All 21 agents get code-assistant tools while your PC is connected.
What it does not touch: system password stores and keychains, the browser’s cookies and saved credentials, and SSH and GPG private keys. What it deletes with its own tools goes to the Recycle Bin and can be recovered until you empty it; writing system shortcuts and reading the clipboard ask for your confirmation. Every action is kept in an activity log visible in the app and in the company’s audit log.
It also produces real documents (PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) with your company’s brand and edits videos with voice-over. A department head can upload a sample document as a template and Shara copies its style (there are 18 document types).
The token the agent identifies itself with lives encrypted on your computer, and renews itself. There is no need to copy keys by hand beyond the activation key at first launch.
For servers with nobody at the screen there is the Server Agent, which is a different package with its own installer and its own systemd unit. The agents read the whole server (folders, files, logs, Docker, services and query commands) without asking for confirmation on each read, except /etc/shadow, private keys and Docker secrets. Any change (restart, install, edit) only runs with the approval of an administrator of your company in Shara, with the exact command they approve, and is audited. It only talks to the API and to the update service if the certificate is issued by one of the root authorities pinned in the agent (Cloudflare’s). The signature of every link in the chain is checked; if it doesn’t match, it sends nothing. The pinning cannot be turned off in production.
Voice dictation
Section titled “Voice dictation”The chat supports dictating instead of typing. The audio is sent to Shara’s transcription infrastructure, in the EU, and comes back as text you can edit before sending. It is a feature the company turns on or off; if the microphone button doesn’t appear, it is off.
What to do if something fails
Section titled “What to do if something fails”- The app says “Offline”. Check that
api.sharasaas.comis reachable from that network. Corporate firewalls that filter outbound traffic are the usual cause. - The login doesn’t return to the app. You are running the loose binary instead of the AppImage, or the
shara://link wasn’t registered. Reinstall from the package. - The agent shows as stopped. Open it from Settings → Desktop agent: the screen says whether the service is registered and whether it is running, and lets you start it again.
- Windows or macOS warn when opening the installer. It is the missing signature. Continue from the warning itself.
